Does it happen to you sometimes? Suddenly you know it! There is no need to talk further about it… I know what to do, which path to take, what is the right decision…I have no doubts and it feels like I am flying..
This is called intuition or gut feeling! It is about listening to one self’s, putting away rational thinking and listening to our subconscious. It is about living in harmony with our emotions.
I believe in intuition and especially in my intuition. Since I am a kid, I believe I can foresee some things and understand a lot at subconscious level. And I am convinced that following our intuition is key to be free. And actually I am writing this post without really knowing why. Just because my intuition tells me that it can be a good idea and it pushes me to do so.
How many decisions do we take following our intuition? How many did we take without taking it into account? And, with what type of consequences?
I love this sentence of Katharine Butler Hathaway: “If you let your fear of consequence prevent you from following your deepest instinct, your life will be safe, expedient and thin”
What can we do in order to follow our intuition?
1. Listen to your emotions
All our emotions come from our subconscious and the first step in order to follow our gut feeling is to be able to know these emotions. In order to know them, we need to take time to let them come up and listen to them.
I think a good example is life in the country side and this brings me back to the long periods of time I spent there at my grandparents. Time has another meaning there. Contemplation, moments facing ourselves enable us to be much more in harmony with ourselves. I believe we can prompt intuition. This can be done for example by disconnecting from our ultra-connected world, by spitting out our emotions and understanding their origins, or by learning to take time to listen to ourselves. So, I am convinced we can educate intuition, teaching our kids to listen to themselves and their gut feelings from time to time.
2. Trust yourself!
In order to follow your intuition, you need trust and especially, trust in yourself!
What refrains us most of the time when we are about to follow our intuition?
Rational thinking, the fear of failure, the difficulty of justifying to our counterparts the why of acting this way…
In such cases, the sentence of Erickson’s hypnosis can help us: What would you do if you were not afraid?
What is the worst that can happen if I follow my intuition and I fail?
Once we overcome this fear, once we open up our mind to a large umbrella of possibilities, we can then start practicing. Because I also believe intuition is about practice, it is about experiencing this fulfillment and freedom intuition gives us. Once you start, you will want more!
So, what are you waiting for?
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary – Steve Jobs
